Pakistani Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Wednesday said that the government would take all necessary measures to ensure a peaceful environment before and during the presidential election.

Talking to a group of parliamentarians who called on him at the PM's House, Aziz said that the national obligation had to be conducted in accordance with the constitutional provisions, which also entrusted the responsibility upon the government to maintain conducive atmosphere.

The law enforcing agencies had been instructed to adopt appropriate courses of action to protect the life and property of the people and no one would be allowed to violate the law of the land, Aziz said.

He reaffirmed that the re-election of President General Pervez Musharraf would ensure continued progress and prosperity of Pakistan and all those who wanted to promote national interest would support him during the upcoming presidential election.

Aziz said the government believed in dialogue with all the political forces to achieve consensus on all issues of national importance and it would lead to further strengthening democratic process in the country. He added that negative politics had been rejected by the masses and all political parties should upheld the national interest for the cause of their homeland.
