A group of South Korean officials will leave for Pyongyang on Thursday in preparation for the upcoming inter-Korean summit set for Oct. 2-4, South Korea's Unification Ministry said on Wednesday.
The contingent, led by Yun Jeong-weon, the deputy minister of the Office of Inter-Korean Dialogue, consists 34 working-level officials in charge of security, communication, protocol, and media relations, the ministry said.
The contingent plans to review whether South Korea's demands have been met and finalize the itinerary of President Roh and other delegates during the summit, said the ministry, adding that the team will stay in Pyongyang until the summit.
Eight South Korean broadcasting technicians will go with the contingent to prepare for the coverage of the summit, it said.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun plans to visit Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), from Oct. 2 to Oct. 4 and hold summit meeting with DPRK top leader Kim Jong-il.
South Korean Vice Unification Minister Lee Kwan-se led a preparing team for the summit to Pyongyang last week to coordinate the details of the summit with DPRK officials. The preparing team returned to Seoul last Friday.
The summit between Roh Moo-hyun and Kim Jong-il will be the second inter-Korean summit in history. In June 2000, then South Korean President Kim Dae-jung paid a historic visit to Pyongyang and held the first-ever inter-Koran summit with Kim Jong-il.
