A senior member of the Indonesian Judicial Commission, which was set up for court supervisory tasks, was arrested for allegedly taking bribe, the anti-graft agency said Thursday.
Irawady Joenoes, a former state prosecutor, was arrested by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) over suspicion that he took bribe from a businessman from whom the Judicial Commission bought a land in Central Jakarta to build its headquarters.
He was caught with the ill-gotten money in hand, amounting to 30,000 U.S. dollars and 600 million rupiah (65,573 dollars), KPK deputy chief Tumpak Panggabean told a press conference here.
Irawady denied any wrongdoing, saying he took the money because he was assigned for an "undercover job" by his superior.
But Judicial Commission leaders denied such a job existed.
