Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will pay a working visit to Portugal Saturday, the Portuguese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

During the short stay, Abbas is scheduled to meet Portugal's President Anibal Cavaco Silva and Prime Minister Jose Socrates on bilateral relations as well as the peace process in the Middle East.

Portugal, currently holding the six-month rotating European Union presidency, regards situation in the Middle East and peace process between Palestine and Israel as a diplomatic priority, said the foreign ministry.
