Delegations of Japan and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a meeting Friday which lasted for 45 minutes, said Japan's chief negotiator to the six-party talks on the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue Kenichiro Sasae.

Sasae told reporters after going back to hotel from a meeting of delegation heads that the Japanese and DPRK delegations had discussed the situation of the six-party talks and the relationship between Japan and the DPRK.

"The two sides agreed to continue to hold a working group meeting (on the Japan-DPRK relationship), to make efforts for resolving the pending issues with common concern, including the history and the abduction issues," said Sasae.

According to Sasae, besides the meeting of the six top negotiators, the six parties also held some bilateral meetings on Friday.

The second-phase meeting of the sixth round of six-party talks, involving China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Russia and Japan, is expected to work out a road map for implementing achieved consensus in previous meetings. The meeting is due to end on Sunday.
