Sri Lanka Air Force has taken target of a Tamil Tiger training base in an air raid early Saturday morning, defense officials said.
A sea Tiger (the sea wing) training base of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) at Puthukudiiruppu was bombed by Air Force Kfir bombers at around 8:00 a.m. local time (0230 GMT), Group Captain Ajantha Silva, the Air Force spokesman said.
The training base was located in Puthukudiiruppu-Paranthan Road in the northern district of Mullaithivu, Silva said.
Clashes between the Tiger rebels and the government troops have been regular in the north since July when the government claimed that the rebels had been completely evicted from the eastern province.
The LTTE seeks to set up a separate administration in the combined north and east provinces for the Tamil minority in order to realize their political aspirations.
They claim the Sinhala majority governments since 1948 had discriminated the Tamils.
More than 70,000 people have died in the over three decades old conflict.
