Turkish security forces killed two militants of the outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) in an operation in southeastern Turkey, an official statement said on Sunday.
The statement issued by Hakkari Governor's Office said that a group of PKK members opened fire on a border headquarters in Cukurca, drawing counterpunch from the security forces.
Two PKK rebels were killed and many others wounded in the clash, it added.
The statement noted that PKK militants ran away after the clash, taking injured with them, and the security forces searched the rural area after the clash, and seized an AK-47 (kalashnikov) rifle and seven hand grenades.
The PKK has increased attacks on Turkish troops in southeastern Turkey, which led to rising Turkish demands for an incursion into northern Iraq to crush the rebels based there.
The group, listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey, the United States and the European Union, launched an armed campaign for an ethnic homeland in the mainly Kurdish southeastern Turkey in 1984, sparking decades of strife that has claimed more than 30, 000 lives.
