Iran is ready to help the United States in the stabilization of Iraq should Washington set a timetable for its troop withdrawal from Iraq, local media reported Monday, citing a top Iranian security official.

Ali Larijani, the top security official, made the remarks in an interview with Financial Times newspaper which was published Monday.

Larijani, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, said if the U.S. government has "a clear definition of a timetable, we will help them materialize it."

However, if Washington "is persisting with its mistakes, it should not ask for help from us," he said.

Larijani rejected U.S. accusations that Iran is providing weapons to Iraq's anti-U.S. militias, saying what Washington said was "lies."

Iran was the only country in the region to have supported Iraq's government and democratic process, he said.

He also expressed appreciation of the U.S. Democratic party and the British government's Iraq policy.

The U.S. Democratic Party's call for a timetable for U.S troop's withdrawal from Iraq "seems to be logical," he said, while praising the British government as "more intelligent" than its U.S counterpart as it has made adjustments and retreated to Basra airport.
