Yulia Tymoshenko's party -- the Tymoshenko bloc -- has taken lead in the Ukrainian parliament elections, according to partial results released Monday.
With results from over 40 percent of the votes counted by early Monday morning, the Tymoshenko bloc has netted about 33 percent of the vote, followed closely by the Regions Party led by Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich with 30 percent and President Viktor Yushchenko's party with about 16 percent, according to the Central Election Commission.
The official results showed that about 63 percent of the 37.5 million eligible voters cast ballots.
Five parties have been voted into the parliament, the Rada, in the general elections which started earlier Sunday.
Earlier exit polls indicated that Yanukovich's party surpassed the Tymoshenko bloc and Yushchenko's party.
The Interfax news agency cited the PBS U.S. exit poll that the Party of Regions won 34.5 percent of votes, Tymoshenko's bloc won 30.4 percent, the pro-presidential Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defense won 14.4 percent while the Communists won 5.2 percent and the Lytvin bloc, 4 percent.
