Singapore said on Monday the upcoming inter-Korean summit is a "welcome development", and hoped it will keep up the momentum of reconciliation and address the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue.
The Sigaporean Foreign Ministry said in a statement that "The situation on the Korean Peninsula affects the entire region including Southeast Asia. We hope that the second summit will keep up the momentum of reconciliation and address other issues, including proliferation issues and a resolution to the North Korean nuclear issue."
The first summit in 2000 has resulted in wide-ranging cooperation, including on the Gaesong Industrial Complex.
South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun will travel to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Oct. 2-4 and hold summit meeting with DPRK top leader Kim Jong-il in Pyongyang.
