U.S. President George W. Bush met with his Iraqi counterpart Jalal Talabani in the White House Tuesday and they discussed the importance for Iraq to move forward on national reconciliation, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said.

"The two leaders had a very good meeting. They covered a range of subjects. They spoke about the importance for Iraq to move forward on national reconciliation, including following through on the leaders agreement that was signed on August 26th in Iraq," Perino said.

Perino said the Iraqis are currently working to finalize three key pieces of legislation: the national oil revenue distribution, de-Baathification which would allow people who were in the Saddam Hussein government to be allowed to work in the new government, and provincial elections.

Both agree that it is important for Iraq's parliament to pass these laws, Perino said.

The Bush administration, who launched the Iraq war in 2003 and toppled the Saddam Hussein regime, has been under heavy pressure to speed up Iraq's national reconciliation process, as tens of thousands of Iraqis have been killed in Iraq's sectarian violence.
