Singapore has condemned act of detonating an explosive device in the Maldivian capital of Male last Saturday in which 12 foreign tourists were injured, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The Ministry said that Singapore was shocked and saddened to learn of the bomb attack and extended its sympathies to those affected.

Singapore condemned such acts of violence, which are aimed at disrupting the peace of the country, creating fear and disrupting the livelihood of its people, said the statement.

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) have arrested 11 suspects in connection with the explosion and the investigation is still under way.
