Barbados urged on Wednesday the international community to take immediate actions to mitigate and adapt to climate change.
"If we continue to delay action we will be judged harshly ... for callously placing the inheritance of our future generations in greater jeopardy," Barbados Foreign Minister Billie Miller said in an address delivered at the general debate of the 62nd session of the United Nations General Assembly.
"For today we might have choices - tomorrow they will not," she said.
Miller said climate change threatens the very survival of Barbados, a small, low-lying island state highly dependent on its coastal and marine environment for economic activity.
She called for "decisive global action" to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and address climate change in a comprehensive manner.
"It can no longer be denied that climate change is an alarming phenomenon that requires focused attention and urgent and decisive global action by the international community," Miller said.
