A senior member of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said Thursday that real and serious obstacles between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority ( PNA) would prevent them from reaching a deal before a U.S- sponsored Mideast peace conference.
"We don't think that we can overcome the big obstacles between the Israeli and the Palestinian side before the conference" due to be held in mid-November, Taysser Khaled, a PLO executive committee member, told the Voice of Palestine radio.
Khaled was quoted as saying that the Israeli-Palestinian meetings can not result in a deal to be presented to the conference because of the differences among the Israeli government and the Israeli "hesitation and weakness."
Israeli and Palestinian joint negotiation teams held their first meeting Wednesday in a bid to strike a deal on the final- status issues before going to attend the November conference that will help revising the peace process.
"We don't advise quickness in trying to reach an agreement with Israel on any document or a statement lower than the ceiling of the Arab peace initiative," Khaled said.
He also warned that going to the conference without securing a breakthrough "will cause internal troubles for the Palestinians."
