Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Friday termed achieving development and reducing poverty as Egypt's priorities at this stage, the official MENA news agency reported.
In an address to the nation to commemorate the 34th anniversary of the October War in 1973, Mubarak said creating more job opportunities, luring more investment and achieving economic development were Egypt's biggest challenges.
Mubarak said improving living conditions was the most important task, including efforts to reduce inflation rates and upgrade services in a way that economic development was reflected in people's life.
On the October War in 1973, Mubarak said that Egypt will always draw lessons and acquire further resolve, determination and confidence from the victory in the war.
The October War in 1973, also called the fourth Arab-Israeli War, was fought from Oct. 6 to Oct. 26, between Israel and a coalition forces of Arab states led by Egypt and Syria.
The war began with a surprise joint military attack by Egypt and Syria against Israel on Oct. 6, 1973.
The October War was seen by the Arab world as a big and historic victory against Israel. It came six years after Egypt's defeat in the Six-Day War in 1967.
