The United States offered congratulations on Saturday for the re-election of Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf.

"Pakistan is an important partner and ally to the United States and we congratulate them for today's election," White House spokesman Scott Stanzel said.

"We look forward to the electoral commission's announcement and to working with all of Pakistan's leaders on important bilateral, regional and counterterrorism issues," Stanzel said.

According to Pakistan media reports, Musharraf was unofficially declared winner of the presidential elections on Saturday.

The results of the poll from the National Assembly, Senate and four provincial assemblies showed that Musharraf achieved a crushing victory in the presidential elections.

Pakistan has been a key U.S. ally in the war against terrorism.
