South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun said Monday that his government will push forward inter-Korean sports exchanges.

"I visited Pyongyang last week. I felt strong fraternal love there. I wish inter-Korean sports exchanges would further be stimulated, setting the stage for the North (the Democratic People 's Republic of Korea, or DPRK) athletes to participate in South Korea's national games," Roh said at the opening of the 88th National Games in the southern city of Gwangju.

"Next year, the South Korean Olympic cheering squad will be able to use inter-Korean railways to travel to Beijing," said the president.

According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, South Korean and DPRK sports officials met on the sidelines of the inter-Korean summit last week and discussed fielding a joint team for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.
