The Indonesian and Singapore governments had agreed to put aside their defense cooperation agreement (DCA) indefinitely, according to Indonesian Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda.
"As to an appeal whether to continue the DCA, we have decided for the time being to put it aside. We won't discuss it in a certain limited period," Antara news agency on Tuesday quoted the minister as saying.
No time had been set for the resumption of the DCA talks, the minister said on the sidelines of a working meeting with the House 's Commission I here on Monday afternoon.
"We don't know how long it will take. If the situation has returned to normal, we may resume the discussions," he said.
The minister further explained that while Singapore insisted that the negotiations had been completed, Indonesia said otherwise.
"The DCA talks have yet to be completed, as there was still no rules of implementation," he said.
It was said that the Indonesian government sticks to chapter 6 of the DCA which stipulated that the two sides needed to agree on the administrative and operational arrangements on use of military area.
The Indonesian government signed the defense cooperation agreement with Singapore in April this year, but many members of the Indonesian parliament opposed the using of the country's military area for military operation by the two countries.
