Air Arabia, a low-cost airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), will launch a new service linking its hub city Sharjah and India's Bangalore on Oct. 15, local newspaper Gulf News reported on Tuesday.

Air Arabia will initially provide four flights a week between Sharjah and Bangalore and will operate the service on a daily basis from Oct. 29, the report said.

Labeled as the "Silicon Valley of India," Bangalore is India's third most populous city and a major economic hub for the country. It will be Air Arabia's ninth destination in India, and will increase the airline's total destinations to 37.

"We are pleased to add Bangalore to our low-cost flight network within India. ... Our rapidly expanding route destination network between India and the Middle East answers a growing need for passengers traveling between the two economically vibrant regions, "the airline's commercial director Kyle Haywood said.

The four-year-old airline is determined to carry out a strategy of expansion in both fleet and network.

It was reported that Air Arabia will strike a deal to buy up to 40 new aircraft in the next few weeks, which are expected to replace the its current fleet of 10 leased Airbus A320 aircraft.

The airline will also launch new routes and additional flights to Cyprus, Greece, Turkey, central Asia and within the Gulf Cooperation Council.

In addition, it will also invest in the development of two additional hubs, possibly in South Asia, the Middle East or the Mediterranean region.

Launched in October 2003 and modeled after leading American and European low-cost carriers, Air Arabia is the first and largest low-cost carrier in the Middle East and North Africa.

It currently provides services to 36 destinations in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
