A Palestinian rights group on Tuesday accused the rival groups of Hamas and Fatah of gross violations of international laws in their June infighting in Gaza Strip, which it said have killed and wounded many innocent Palestinians.
The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR), a leading Palestinian rights group in Gaza Strip said in a report released on Tuesday that 161 people, of whom 41 were innocent civilians, were killed in the fighting between June 7 and June 14, when Hamas seized control of the territory from Fatah.
About 700 people were wounded during the period, many were maimed, it added.
"The two rivals committed severe violations of the international laws relating to armed infighting," said the rights group in the report titled "Dark pages in the absence of justice."
"Many were executed on purpose in a severe violation of human rights law, while militants from both sides were killed after being detained," said the report for the first time since the end of the infighting.
Hamas movement, listed as a terrorist organization by Europe and the United States, took control of all the Gaza Strip after defeating President Mahmoud Abbas' Fatah movement and his security forces in June.
Efforts had been made by Palestinian and foreign mediators to bring leaders of the two rival movements back to negotiating table to overcome their differences and end the ongoing conflict.
