UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon discussed the situation in Myanmar with U.S. first lady Laura Bush in a telephone conversation on Tuesday, a UN spokesperson said.

Michele Montas told reporters that during the call the secretary-general provided an update on the work being done by his special advisor, Ibrahim Gambari, who recently ended a four-day mission to Myanmar.

Montas said the call was a follow-up to a call that the first lady had made to the secretary-general when he was in Torino, Italy, in August.
