Two American soldiers were killed and five others injured in a mortar attack near the Iraqi capital Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Saturday.
The attack occurred on Oct. 10, the military said in a statement without providing further details, saying the incident is under investigation.
The wounded soldiers were transported immediately to an army medical facility for treatment and further evaluation, the military said.
The names of the deceased soldiers were being withheld pending notification of their families and the names of the wounded were withheld for reasons of privacy, it added.
The latest deaths bring the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,823 since the outbreak of the Iraq war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
