Jordan's King Abdullah II and U.S. President George W. Bush discussed by the phone efforts to push the Mideast peace process forwards and preparations for an upcoming international conference on Middle East peace, the official Petra news agency reported on Monday.
Abdullah underscored the important role of the United States in bridging the viewpoints and enhancing the confidence climate between the Palestinians and Israelis at the current stage, according to the report.
On July 16, U.S. President George Bush proposed to hold the international conference this fall, which would include Israel, the Palestinians and some neighboring Arab states, to help resume the stalled Middle East peace talks.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is currently in the Middle East for a new round of shuttle diplomacy, trying to bring the Palestinians and Israelis close enough to go to the peace conference which reportedly will be held in Annapolis, Maryland in late November.
Rice has visited Israel and the Palestinian territories. She will also pay visits to Egypt and Jordan in the coming days.
