A South Korean civic group launched on Tuesday a campaign against McDonald's, urging the world's biggest fast-food company to stop running commercials for "unhealthy food" and enticing children with toys.
According to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency, the campaign was organized for the World Anti-McDonald's Day, which was launched by the international environmental activist group, Greenpeace, in the mid 1980s.
Running commercials of "Happy Meals" before or after children's television programs is just as inappropriate as running commercials promoting tobacco use for children, said the Citizen's Movement for Environment Justice.
The group collected the Happy Meal toys offered by McDonald's and sent them in a parcel to the company's headquarters in the United States and demanded the company to stop distributing toys in a letter, Yonhap said.
