Russia and India on Thursday signed an agreement to jointly develop and produce multi-purpose 5th generation military aircraft, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.
"This document will enable our countries to implement a project which envisions equitable funding and engineering contribution to the joint development of 5th generation planes," Itar-Tass cited an official of Russia's Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation as saying.
The project is expected to be one of the largest military programs between the two countries, which have conducted such cooperation as the licensed production in India of T-90S tanks andSu-30MKI fighters, and the upgrade of the Admiral Gorshkov aircraft carrier.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday that the new generation of military aircraft will be developed by 2012-2015.
