A U.S. soldier was killed and three others were wounded by a bomb explosion north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said on Friday.

A Task Force Lightning soldier was killed and three others were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle in Salahudin province on Wednesday, a military statement said.

The wounded soldiers have been transported to a coalition medical facility for treatment, it said.

The name of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, it added.

The latest death brings the number of U.S. soldiers who have been killed in Iraq to about 3,830 since the outbreak of the Iraqi war in 2003, according to media count based on Pentagon figures.
