Iraq and its neighbors here Tuesday stressed the importance of cooperation for stability in the war-torn country and the region at large.
The regional countries voiced the determination in their fourth meeting of interior ministers, which opened here earlier in the day with an aim to find ways to restore stability to Iraq.
Interior ministers from Iraq, Iran, Jordan, Kuwait, Syria, Turkey, Egypt and Bahrain attended the meeting.
Kuwait's minister Sheikh Jaber al-Mubarak al-Sabah told the meeting that cooperation was vital to combat the phenomenon.
"Security cooperation amongst our states in combating terrorism requires us to intensify efforts...through controlling the movements of terrorist elements and facing them," he said.
Egyptian Interior Minister Habib el-Adly also spoke at the meeting, underlining the importance of Iraqi neighbors' cooperation to support for stability in Iraq and the region at large.
The meeting reflects the countries' keenness to continue support for all efforts to maintain Iraq's territorial integrity and reject any plans to partition the country, he said, asserting Egypt's confidence in the Iraqi people's ability to overcome their predicament and attain their higher interests.
The participants warned that failing to fully support the war- ravaged Iraq would strengthen militant groups intent on destabilizing the region.
"Any failure in standing by Iraq will give the opportunity to terrorist organizations...to concentrate on Iraq and convert it into a launch pad for their criminal activity," said Prince Nayef bin Abdul Aziz, Interior Minister of Saudi Arabia.
For his part, Iraqi Interior Minister Jawad al-Bulani urged its neighbors to do more to stem the funding and flow of cross-border insurgent infiltrators.
