The United Nations Mission in Cote d'Ivoire (ONUCI) is organizing a training workshop to reinforce the capacity of local nongovernmental organizations in the fight against HIV/ AIDS.
Organized in collaboration with UN Population Fund (UNFPA) and the ministry in charge of the fight against HIV/AIDS, the seminar, which began on Monday in Yamoussoukro, is aimed at improving the effectiveness of local NGOs in the fight against the AIDS epidemic, according to a statement published on Tuesday by the ONUCI.
The workshop, which is being conducted by ONUCI's HIV/AIDS department, is falling within the framework for the prevention of sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) and HIV/AIDS among peacekeeping forces and local communities, according to the statement.
The statement said that a total of 27 participants drawn from 20 local NGOs, which are involved in the implementation of the project, are taking part in the workshop expected to last seven days.
After the conclusion of the seminar, it is hoped that participants will be able to elaborate and implement programs aimed at mobilizing communities with a view to promoting behavioral change, the most effective way of scaling back the prevalence of STDs and even HIV/AIDS.
