Sudanese President Omer al-Bashir left Khartoum Thursday for Tripoli on a one-day official visit in Libya before the Sudanese government and Darfur rebel movements restarting peace talks in Libya's coastal city of Sirte on Saturday.
Sudanese Presidential Advisor Mustafa Osman Ismail told reporters at the Khartoum Airport that the Sudanese President would hold a meeting with Libyan leader Muammar al-Qaddafi on issues of common concerns.
He said that al-Bashir would also attend a ceremony of signing reconciliation agreement between Chad's government and opposition. local political observers expected that the talks between al- Bashir and al-Gaddafi would deal with the arrangements for the upcoming Darfur peace negotiations.
Some rebel factions in Darfur, including Abdul Wahed Mohammed Nour, the founder of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), have announced their boycott of the Sirte negotiations while some others called for a postponement.
Both the United Nations and the African Union, which will cochair the negotiations, have persisted that the negotiations would be held at the defined date.
