The foreign ministers of the Visegrad Four (V4) group expressed support for Moldova to come closer to the European Union (EU) during their meeting in Prague on Thursday.
The top diplomats of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia invited their Moldovan counterpart Andrei Stratan to the meeting.

They discussed possible forms of cooperation of the Visegrad states with Moldova and the development of that country's relations with the EU.

Negotiations between the EU and Moldova are only in the stage of preparations, Czech Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg said, adding that he hoped Moldova's EU entry would once be topical.

The Visegrad Group was formed in 1991 in Visegrad, Hungary, by Poland, Czechoslovakia and Hungary, with the aim of furthering cooperation among member countries.

Czechoslovakia was divided in December 1992 into the Czech Republic and Slovakia, both now members of the Visegrad Group.
