Polish President Lech Kaczynski and his Czech counterpart Vaclav Klaus on Friday positively assessed the results of last week's informal European Union (EU) summit in Lisbon, the Polish PAP news agency reported.
Speaking by telephone, the two leaders agreed that the Reform Treaty, approved by EU leaders in Lisbon last week, has set a good basis for carrying out the necessary reforms to the EU aimed at improving the efficiency of the EU's institutions.
At the informal EU summit in Lisbon from Oct. 18-19, EU leaders endorsed the Reform Treaty to replace the controversial EU Constitutional Treaty, which was signed by EU states in 2004 but rejected by French and Dutch voters in referenda in 2005.
The new document will be signed on Dec. 13 in Lisbon by EU leaders. If ratified by all 27 EU member states, the treaty will come into force in 2009. Source: Xinhua
