Grenade-like devices exploded at the Mexican consulate in New York City early Friday morning, with no one injured, local police said.
The two explosives were tossed into the rear of the consulate, located on 39th Street between Madison and Park avenues, around 3:30 local time (08:30 GMT), causing small explosions, said policeCommissioner Ray Kelly.
"They are training grenades or dummy-type grenades that were hollowed out and charges were placed in them," said Kelly.
The grenades were thrown separately, and exploded at different times, leaving three windows broken, but no one was injured in theblasts, police said.
Mexican consulate officials said they had received no threats and had no idea why their building was targeted.
A witness described a possible suspect as male, in his 20s, andwearing a grey jacket. The man rode a bike away from the scene around the time of the blasts, police quoted the witness as saying.
