German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Saturday warned against any "military adventures" against Iran over its controversial nuclear programs, local reports said.

"Military adventures are no contribution to a solution," Steimeier told a meeting of his Social Democratic Party (SPD) in Hamburg, German news agency DPA reported.

"The daily ranting about it only makes a solution more difficult," he said.

Meanwhile, the minister stressed the need to keep nuclear weapons away from Iran.

A nuclear-armed Iran "would destabilise the entire Middle East," he said.

Germany will continue to work toward a diplomatic solution along with the United States, Russia and China, said the minister.

Some Western countries have been pushing for wider sanctions or even military measures against Iran to stop its nuclear enrichment.

Iranian leaders have repeatedly said Tehran would not bow to Western pressure to suspend its uranium enrichment, which Iran said will only be used for peaceful means such as generating power.
