Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki is scheduled to visit Damascus on Monday to discuss the latest developments in the region and bilateral ties with the Syrian leadership, Iranian diplomatic source said on Sunday.
Mottaki would transfer a message from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad on ways of coordination and consultation between the two countries and the developments in the region, particularly in Iraq, Lebanon and the Palestinian territories, the source said in a statement.
The tense situation between Turkey and the Turkish Workers' Party (PKK) along the Turkish-Iraqi borders and the forthcoming presidential elections in Lebanon would be focused, said the source.
Mottaki's visit came days before a conference on Iraq by foreign ministers of Iraq's neighbors in Turkey early next month and after a visit by Turkish Foreign Minister Ali Babacan to Tehran.
