Abbas urged to stop meeting Israeli officials

The Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) Monday urged Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to stop meetings with Israeli leaders.

"We want a clear and frank announcement from President Abu Mazen (Abbas) that the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO)leadership and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) will suspend all contacts with the Israeli leadership," the group said in a statement.

"Calling off all the scheduled meetings with Israeli officials is the best reaction to the Israeli imposing of collective punishment on our people in Gaza," the statement said.

The call came one day after Israeli fuel companies had reportedly started to execute an Israeli plan to reduce fuel supplies to the Gaza Strip in response to intensified rockets attacks on Israel.

The Israeli and Palestinian negotiation teams have been holding talks to prepare for a mutual participation in a U.S.-sponsored peace conference slated for later this year.

"There is no sense to keep waiting a political settlement with any enemy collectively punishing our people," the statement added.

The PFLP also urged the Islamic Resistance Movement(Hamas) to give up control of Gaza Strip and hand over the PNA security facilities in the Gaza Strip to President Mahmoud Abbas "in order to resume a national dialogue to reunite our people."
