Premier Kim Yong Il of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) arrived here late Tuesday afternoon by a special plane, starting his three-day working visit to Malaysia. Malaysian Foreign Minister Syed Hamid met with Kim Yong Il at a hotel for a brief talk and then held a banquet to welcome Kim.
The DPRK premier is expected to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi for talks on Wednesday.
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry said Monday that the main purpose of Kim's visit was to strengthen the existing bilateral relations and cooperation between Malaysia and the DPRK.
The visit paid by Kim Yong Il would further enhance relations between Malaysia and the DPRK and open new areas of cooperation for the benefits of the two countries, the ministry said.
