The Organization of American States(OAS) Tuesday called on the Colombian government to resolve irregularities during Sunday's local elections, saying they threaten the country's democracy.
Local governments in Colombia said the voting day was calm, but international observers from the OAS Observing Mission reported vote buying, threats against voters and illegal financing of political activities, among other irregularities.
The observers said they personally witnessed that votes for candidates were bought with cash or food.
Colombia's democratic process will be negatively affected if the electoral irregularities are left unsolved, the OAS said.
Registered voters throughout Colombia cast their ballots on Sunday to elect mayors, city councilors, governors and assembly representatives in its 32 provinces.
