Palestinian Fatah movement denounced Monday that Hamas leader in Gaza Ismail Haneya's refusal to talks conditions "reflects the catastrophic situation of Gaza Strip residents after Hamas' bloody coup".
"Our people in Gaza Strip see and feel that the coup-makers were a group of fanatics whose radicalism did not enable them to assess the Palestinian situation," Fatah spokesman Ahmed Abdel Rahman told Voice of Palestine radio.
Hamas fought pro-Fatah security forces which President Mahmoud Abbas leads and routed them in bloody fighting in June, taking over the Gaza Strip and forcing hundreds of Fatah officials to escape from Gaza.
In a lengthy speech on Sunday, Haneya, who was heading a national unity government in June, called on Abbas to resume talks with Hamas but refused Abbas' conditions of giving up Gaza control.
"Our people in Gaza were waiting Haneya to announce retraction of the coup and the return to the legitimacy instead of blaming the Palestinian (National) Authority on the deterioration of Gaza Strip," said Abdel Rahman.
He added that "Israel has turned the Gaza Strip into a huge detention center while the coup-makers considered their takeover of the Gaza as a second liberation."
