Australian Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd on Wednesday officially launched the Opposition's election campaign in Brisbane, capital city of the state of Queesland, 10 days before the vote for the federal election.
One of Rudd's main promises in the launch of the Labor party's election campaign is the establishment of a 500 million Australian dollar (444 million U.S. dollars) renewable energy fund.
"Today I announce that if elected I will establish a major new renewable energy fund to develop, commercialize and deploy renewable energy technologies right across Australia," he said.
"We need to harness our enormous potential in solar, wind, geothermal and wave power. This fund will support projects that take renewable energy technology from the lab to the grid," he said.
Rudd also outlined his vision to boost the nation's productivity and keep inflation in check, promising Labor had the mettle to take the tough decisions on the economy.
Meanwhile, he announced Labor's skill package to tackle skill shortage by funding 450,000 training places across the country.
He also announced Labor's plans on promoting the country's education, including primary school's broadband network, buying and upgrading computers for primary school students and doubling the number of university undergraduate scholarships and postgraduate scholarships by 2012. Source: Xinhua
