Palestinian security forces loyal to President Mahmoud Abbas had arrested three Hamas members for further investigations in the West Bank, security sources said Thursday.
"If the investigations proved that those detainees have not participated in Hamas' plans to shake security in the West Bank, they will be released," said the sources.
They also denied reports that some of Hamas detainees were transferred to hospitals after being tortured. "These are rumors circulated by Hamas to incite against the security services," the sources said.
Since mid-June when Hamas men overran Abbas' Fatah militants and seized control of the Gaza Strip, Fatah's security forces have been constantly accused by Hamas of intensifying efforts to crackdown on Hamas members and prevent a possible repeated scenario in the West Bank.
Meanwhile, Hamas had detained Palestinians loyal to Abbas' Fatah movement in the Gaza Strip, saying, "they want to bring back the status of lawlessness to the Gaza Strip."
