A Russian ship collided with a Cambodian vessel early Saturday in the Kerch Strait, but the accident posed no new threat to the environment of an area hit by fuel oil spills caused by recent sea accidents, Interfax news agency reported.

"The Nika ship sailing under the Cambodian flag, which was leaving the Kerch Strait for the Sea of Azov, and the anchored Russian vessel Volgodon-5076 collided at about 1:45 a.m. Moscow time Saturday (2245 GMT, Friday)," Interfax quoted a source from the local crisis center as saying.

The Kerch Strait links the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov.

No one was hurt in the collision and the accident posed no threat to the environment, the source said.

Several ships from Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, Georgia and Greece sank or ran aground when they were caught in a severe storm that hit the Azov Sea basin last Sunday. A Russian tanker spilled about 2,000 tons of fuel oil, which experts say could linger for years.
