Around 71 people were killed in Papua New Guinea (PNG)'s heavy flooding caused by Cyclone Guba, Radio New Zealand International reported Monday.
According to the report, another 55 people were also missing after seven consecutive days of heavy rain which left a trail of destruction in Oro Province, north of Port Moresby.
Thousands of villagers were forced from their homes hit by flood waters up to three and a half meters high.
Reports from Oro Province's capital Popendetta claimed the town is like an island with roads and bridges to the airport and main wharf destroyed.
A PNG defense force aircraft is due to fly to the province's main town of Popondetta later Monday, carrying relief supplies and government officials who will survey the damage. Source: Xinhua
