The rescue work has completed at a gold mine in southeast Australia with all of the 27 miners who were trapped in a collapsed shaft having been brought to the surface.
Australian Broadcasting Corporation radio reported Monday that the miners were brought up in groups of four, via a crane.
The shaft at the mine near Ballarat in the state of Victoria collapsed at about 4:00 a.m. local time Monday (1700 GMT, Sunday).
The last of the men were safely brought to the surface just after 8:00 a.m. local time (2100 GMT, Sunday).
The mine's operator, Lihir Gold, said it does not know how the collapse happened. The mine will remain closed while investigations into the rock fall happen.
Earlier, Lihir Gold's general manager of corporate affairs, Joe Dowling, said the partial collapse of the Woolshed Gully decline happened about 700 meters underground.
One of the miners used his mobile phone to communicate with the mining company and police.
