Seven Colombian soldiers have been killed by rebels' landmines near the center of country, the Army said on Sunday.
A soldier tripped a landmine that set off a series of explosion on Sunday in Tolima province. The survivors then launched a counterattack against the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) militias. Four rebels died in the clash.
Tolima province, which neighbors the capital Bogota is a long-time rebel stronghold. FARC was established there in 1964.
Thousands of people are killed each year in the bloody civil conflict involving rebels and other militias, who financed themselves by exporting illegal drugs.
Nearly 600 military officers were killed in action last year.
