A moderate earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale shook northern Chile Monday evening, local radio reported.
The epicenter of the earthquake, which occurred at 2230 GMT (1930 local time), was 150 km west of the town of Calama and 158 km north-northwest of Antofagasta, at 35 km below the surface, the reports quoted the U.S. Geological Survey as saying.
The quake came less than a week after a series of powerful earthquakes hit northern Chile, causing injuries and structural damage.
A major 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked northern Chile on Nov. 14, leaving two people dead and 100 more injured.
Two strong aftershocks, measuring 6.2 and 6.8 magnitude respectively, came one day later, jolting the country again.
