Bail has been granted Tuesday by a local New Zealand court to an Auckland man who was charged with threatening to kill New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark.
Karl Andrew Fenn, 39, threatened to kill the Prime Minister unless she paid him 100,000 NZ dollars (76,000 U.S. dollars), pleaded not guilty to one charge of threatening to kill - an offense which carries a maximum prison sentence of seven years.
Fenn allegedly posted a letter to Helen Clark earlier this month demanding the money be deposited into his bank account.
Fenn, a hostel resident allegedly told Police officers he needed the money "to travel to Fiji where he was needed."
An order was made suppressing all arguments for and against bail and also the judge's reasons for granting it.
Fenn is to reappear in court next month. Source: Xinhua
