German Chancellor Angela Merkel and visiting Italian Prime Minister Romano Prodi held talks on Tuesday, which focus on bilateral ties and international situation.
The two leaders were joined by their foreign ministers for the talks at Schloss Meseberg, the German government guest house some 70 kilometers from Berlin.
Transport and economics ministers from the two countries were also holding their own bilateral meetings on a range of issues.
The baroque palace at Schloss Meseberg came into its present role only in January this year, but since then Merkel has made use of it as a secluded venue for meetings with foreign leaders.
