Mexico's state-run energy giant Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex) said a new fire on Tuesday broke out on an oil platform in the Gulf of Mexico that is being repaired after an accident that killed 21 in October.
"A spark set off the fire, at the well Kab-121, during repair work to stem an oil and gas leak" from one of the oil wells, Pemex said in a statement.
The company said there were no new injuries. Kab-121 is run from the platform Kab-101.
The rig, which crashed into a valve platform on Oct. 23 releasing natural gas from a well into the atmosphere, had previously caught fire on Tuesday last week.
Pemex said repairs to the oil rig were risky due to "flammable gas emanating from the well."
Pemex said that once the fire was out it would resume operations to control the gas leak, which have now been underway for more than three weeks.
