Palestinian police arrested six people accused of committing crimes in West Bank city of Nablus as part of a security restoration campaign, police chief Ahmed al-Sharqawi said on Thursday.
He said the security services stormed Beit Omrin village in Nablus last night to arrest the six wanted criminals, adding that the operation was coordinated with the Israeli army which still has the security control on the village.
Al-Sharqawi explained that the criminals have sought protection in that village because the Palestinian forces could not reach it in the past.
Israel has agreed to allow Palestinian security forces to deploy in Nablus to restore security but Palestinian armed groups were suspicious over the hidden goals of the U.S.-backed deployment.
Meanwhile, as part of the security plan in Nablus, the security forces still pursue militants from the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) in al-Einrefugee camp in the west of the city.
The Palestinian security sources say the militants have used their weapons in occasions irrelevant to resistance against the Israeli army.
While the Islamic Jihad movement has called on the Palestinian security forces to stop chasing down the PFLP fighters. "We warn against harming the resistance or its weapons under the slogan of cracking down on the trouble makers," al-Quds Brigades of the Islamic Jihad said in a statement sent to the media.
Also in Nablus, the security forces have arrested three members of Islamic Hamas movement and a fourth one in Qalqilya city, Hamas said.
