The humanitarian aid transported by aircraft to flood victims in the southeastern Mexican state of Tabasco has surpassed 310 tons, Mexico's Communications and Transports Minister Luis Tellez said Thursday.
On a working visit to Tabasco state, Tellez said the airlifts facilitated the aid during the most urgent days of the tragedy that flooded 70 percent of the state and Villahermosa, Tabasco's capital city.
Tellez also praised the participation of Mexico's Air Force and other public and private institutions that helped to transfer refugees and rescue thousands of people from their rooftops.
Villahermosa airport provided great service during the flooding, as did the airports of three of Tabasco's neighboring states, Tellez said.
Tellez also thanked Mexico's telephone company Telmex, as well as Mexico's Federal Electricity Commission and the Transport and Communications Ministry for helping to reestablish services.
Cellphone services were also important during the emergency days since they helped to coordinate many people's efforts, Tellez added.
